If you own an RV, you’re no stranger to the many perks that they provide. One biggie is the convenience factor when throwing a tailgate party! We’d like to offer you a Tailgate Prep List to get you started, so the anticipation can begin well before the big game.
Step 1: Plan the Menu
Unlike most tailgaters, you have an RV! That means that you get the benefit of a full kitchen for food storage and preparation, allowing you to think outside the box — or the potato chip bag! Since the best tailgate parties begin well before the game, last through it, and extend afterward, we recommend planning a menu that includes snacks and two full meals.
Keep your guests in mind, making sure you have a choice for everyone, including children as well as anyone who has a limited diet. Once you’ve decided on a menu, it’s time to list the ingredients and containers you’ll need to purchase or bring along as well as the steps you want to take to prep ahead, so you don’t spend all your time in the RV on game day.
Step 2: Preview the Venue
Of course, guessing you already have a game in mind, but you still need to plan ahead about how you’ll watch the game. Will your location be conducive to live streaming through an internet connection or satellite TV? What do you need to make that happen? Or will you have to rely on a radio to listen in? Make sure you keep whatever technology and tools you need in order to make sure your party guests don’t miss out on any part of the game.
Step 3: Pick the Location
You can’t leave this to chance, especially if you have several friends or family members planning to join you for your party. If you want to park outside a stadium, make sure to check on their RV policies ahead of time. Some provide water and electric hook-ups but may require special permits. Others offer only parking.
Step 4: Prepare for Rain
There’s no guarantee that the weather will cooperate, so make sure you’re prepared for any and all potential forecasts in your part of the country & the time of year. Consider providing an awning or portable RV umbrella for shade and protection from precipitation as well as sun block, bug spray, portable fans, and sunglasses.
Step 5: Pack for Impact
Nothing sets the mood like team colors, flags, and other décor. You may also want to provide body paint or window paint to help other people and vehicles in your party display their own team spirit.
Step 6: Provide a Clean-up Crew
You’ll want to make sure to provide a trash receptacle so those in your party can easily dispose of any trash, and consider asking a few people ahead of time to be part of the clean-up crew, making sure to show courtesy to the fans around you by leaving the space looking the same or better than when you arrived.
