Many consumers spend a lot more time researching their next vehicle or furniture purchase — and maybe even their household cleaning or hair care products — than they do even more important products such as life insurance. In fact, many common objections to purchasing a life insurance policy simply don’t hold water when you compare them with reality. Let’s look at a few of those today.
Objection #1: It costs too much.
This one is my favorite question to field. My go-to response is this: Really? How much does it cost? Most people have no clue. And of course, it varies, but still. How can you honestly say something costs too much money if you don’t know how much it costs?
We get it, though: life insurance just doesn’t rank up there with necessities like food and rent or mortgage payments. And sometimes money can be especially tight, where a person can honestly afford nothing extra. No vacation or even a day at the fair. No restaurant meals or even birthday cake or morning coffee. But most Americans aren’t there. If you have money to grab a donut on the way to work each day, you might be surprised to find out that you really can afford life insurance, too!
Objection #2: It’s for when I’m old.
Sure, there are life insurance policies specifically designed for certain target demographics — including senior citizens and infants. But that doesn’t mean that there isn’t a policy for younger or middle-aged adults. It’s really for anyone who has a chance of dying. And like it or not, that’s everyone, including you. We carry many life insurance products for adults who are in their working years, and we’d love to talk to you about them — for free!
Objection #3: I’m too strong and healthy to worry about that, right now.
You do know you’re not invincible, right? Anyone’s health can take a downward turn quite quickly. But besides that unfortunate possibility, while you are still strong and healthy, you’re actually in the best place to take on a life insurance policy. In fact, you’ll get a better rate now than you will later in life, when you could even risk failing to qualify for a life insurance policy at all. Of course, we all hope to never suffer from a significant illness or injury, but none of us has guarantees that our health and strength will continue.
Objection #4: I already have a life insurance policy.
Typically, a person with this objection is referring to a policy provided through their employer. When that’s the case, they may not have any idea what kind of policy it is or how much coverage it offers. No matter how great a policy it may be, it probably won’t follow you if and when you go to another employer. And by then, you may not be as young and healthy as you are now.
