People have all kinds of reasons for not getting a life insurance policy. Whether you think you can’t afford it, don’t need it, or already have one, we’re pretty sure we have a good answer for your objections. And if yours isn’t on our list, we’d love to hear it — and be challenged to figure out if we can answer your unique reason with a convincing retort!
Objection #1: I don’t have kids.
Some people think life insurance is just for senior citizens, while others think it’s just for those adults who happen to also be parents. But just like there are policies especially designed for certain demographics (including parents), there are also policies designed with your specific situation in view.
Essentially, life insurance is designed to assist anyone who would stand to struggle financially in the case of your untimely death. That could obviously include children, but it could also include your spouse or a live-in partner, your parents, or a sibling. It all depends on how your life and your financial obligations are intertwined with those of others.
Life insurance is one of many ways you can care for those you love when you’re not around to show them in other ways. If they care for you and will emotionally suffer if you’re no longer around, you can lighten their load by making sure they aren’t financially suffering at the same time.
Objection #2: It’s just not the right time.
With no government mandate requiring you to purchase it, life insurance is one of those things that can easily get put off indefinitely. In some families, it’s never mentioned, and in most social circles it can be taboo. So it’s an out-of-sight, out-of-mind scenario. But it’s also one of those things we don’t want to have to think about. Denial is not a healthy road, though.
You can put off buying life insurance until it does become unaffordable (or even unavailable, if you acquire certain risk factors and no longer qualify) or you can purchase it now. It really is the right time. And you simply don’t know how long it will be a choice available to you.
Objection #3: I don’t know what I need.
We get it. Purchasing a life insurance policy can be a daunting prospect, especially for someone who has never before had one. You can start with this Life Insurance Calculator which is offered with no strings attached by a neutral, non-profit company (they even have an app!) to get a general idea. But if you can’t afford the recommended amount, know that it’s not an all-or-nothing kind of thing: you can certainly purchase a smaller policy than what’s recommended. Something will definitely be better than nothing at all.
Feel free to contact one of our friendly insurance agents for a free Life Insurance consultation. We can help you determine a policy that will both meet your needs and fit into your budget, whatever that may mean.
